footprints in the cement
as i was walking home from the Y i decided to take one of the many cute streets instead of the big, boring avenue. while on said street heading home, i noticed about 100 yards in front of me a guy putting the finishing touches on a new bit of cement sidewalk. the reason i knew that's what was going on was because the guy had a broom, he was wearing an elaborate neon orange vest, he was standing next to a cement truck and there were no less than 4 large orange cones around the area. as i get closer i start thinking about how i am going to get around them and i notice a 1 1/2 foot gap between the property fence and the cement so i see the way for me to go without walking in the street. by the time i'm within spitting distance of the scene the worker is leaning on his broom, talking to the sidewalk owner and enjoying the view of thier pristene wet cement. out of nowhere comes a small fellow heading the opposite direction on the street and towards the cement. small fellow makes eye contact with me and then proceeds to walk right ON the new cement, all the way across it, he looks startled after his first step. looks at the guy with the broom and with an unidentifiable accent says, "i'm sorry." the guy on the broom had looked away for the brief moment small fellow appeared so there was no way to warn anyone and i didn't think there was any way small fellow could not see the wet cement, truck, cones, broom... the guy with the broom is understandably mad and starts saying, "didn't you see the orange cones brother? i can't believe you did that beep beep beep..." by that time i was long gone and when at the end of the street i looked back, broom man was on the ground trying to scrape the footprints out.

I find the boy's/man's failure to notice the orange cones believable.
